Leaving

A few days ago this boat (the St. Tatiana) took me from Angoon Alaska to my childhood home of Sitka Alaska.  I just finished my second year of teaching in the village of Angoon and it was time for a change.  Angoon did not have many people with interests similar to my own and I was beginning to feel the isolation a little too much.  It will be a very good thing to have a change of pace when I go to Portland Oregon to work on my Masters degree.

However, there are some people I will miss as well.  My students were a wonderful group of kids and I value the time I was able to spend with them.  There were also three teachers who really went out of their way to make me feel like I was a welcome addition to the group.  We were all very different in our own ways but I appreciated their friendship very much.  One of them even baked me cookies and cried when she was saying goodbye.  I am glad I will be missed.  I hope they understand that I will and do miss them too.
